Ambassador FAQs

How do I start my fundraising?

add remove

Start out with something simple and ask your friends and family to donate to your campaign! Tell them why you’ve chosen to be an ambassador and fundraise for One Girl, and why girls' education so important to you! Why not host an event (eg. a bake sale, dinner party, trivia night, yoga class), get active (eg. challenge yourself to run 5km/10km/15km or even a half or full marathon! Or how about a daily planking or star jump challenge!) or challenge yourself in another way (eg. give up your favourite food/drink for a month!).

We have some great resources and fundraising tips and tricks to get you on your way to smashing your goal, just email Florence at ambassadors@onegirl.org.au and she will share them with you!

How can I get my local community involved?

add remove

Don’t be afraid to get out and about and talk to all your networks about One Girl and why you are an ambassador! The more you share your passion, the more you will find others who share that same passion, and who will want to help you! Why not talk to your local cafe, sporting club, or neighbours? Tell them what you are doing and about your fundraising, and see if they can support you in some way!

How do I talk about One Girl and what the organisation does?

add remove

After your ambassador workshop, we will share some handy talking points, which you can use as a guide when talking about One Girl and what the organisation does. Don’t worry if someone asks you a question that you don’t know the answer to — just make a note of it and get in touch with us at ambassadors@onegirl.org.au and we will get back to you with the answer :)

As an ambassador, do I also have to take part in Do It In A Dress?

add remove

Taking part in Do It In A Dress is a really great way to fundraise, but it’s not mandatory for ambassadors to take part in it! We recognise that there are so many ways people like to fundraise, and if putting on a school dress is not for you, then that’s absolutely fine! You can fundraise doing whatever you feel comfortable doing.

If you do want to take part in Do It In A Dress, then we will be running a workshop for ambassadors just before DIIAD kicks off in September. We will give ambassadors lots of ideas and talk about how to engage a team to take part in Do It In A Dress with you, PLUS, as an ambassador, we will send you your One Girl branded school dress for free.

How much am I expected to fundraise as an ambassador?

add remove

This year we have set a collective goal of $100,000 for our 100 ambassadors. That means it’s good to set an individual goal of $1,000 so you can play your part in achieving this target. If you think you can raise more, go for it! That would be amazing! If you don’t think you’ll quite be able to reach a target of $1,000 yourself, have a chat with us and we can support you with your fundraising. We are all in this together!

How long is the ambassador program running for? When do I need to raise the money?

add remove

The Ambassador Program kicks off in April, and runs until the end of the year. We suggest you get started with your fundraising as soon as possible so you can hit your target quicker, and your fundraising can start making an impact on our programs even sooner.

Who do I contact if I have any questions or need some help with my fundraising?

add remove

You can get in touch with Florence at ambassadors@onegirl.org.au. She’s always up for a chat! cool

How do I get my school/uni/workplace involved?

add remove

It is a great idea to get your school/uni/workplace/club involved with your fundraising efforts! Why not organise a time to speak about One Girl and why you are an ambassador? We can provide you with talking points, videos and presentations if you want to do your own talk at your school/uni/workplace/club, just let us know how we can help!

If you think it would be a good idea to have someone from One Girl speak at your school/uni/workplace/club, we can also come and talk about One Girl, what we do, and why we do it. We can talk about the importance of fundraising for our programs and provide inspiration and ideas so that more people will want to get involved. We can do these talks in person or via an online webinar (to abide by restrictions that are still in place!).

Do you have any top fundraising tips from previous ambassadors?

add remove

We certainly do! Some of our past ambassadors have shared their top fundraising tips below:

  1. Don't be afraid to contact people from your wider network or people you haven’t spoken to for a while. Some of the most generous donations will come from people you haven't seen in years, or have only met a couple times!
  2. Start strong on day one. Before you know it the campaign will be over, so start full throttle and you'll see it pay off as time progresses.
  3. Be gentle with yourself if your donations slow for a day, week, or month -- especially if this is your first time fundraising! Just know that you're doing an incredible thing to help girls and every dollar makes a difference.
  4. Build an army and fundraise in a group (you don't have to do it all alone!). Let your infectious passion infect all your friends and family. If they don't become a One Girl convert, they'll likely just love your passion and they'll get involved because they love you and what you're achieving.
  5. Tap into your network for things like catering, graphic design, social media and PR, venues, financial management, etc. You'll be surprised with how generous people can be. And many can't give money but they will love what you're doing and want to contribute in another way.
  6. Use it as an opportunity to learn new skills that align with your goals (career, personal, etc.). If you've got a skill you've been trying to find the time to practice, use the hours you'll be spending fundraising to work on this. Want to learn to surf? Well, make sure your campaign is based around that. Social media management, digital marketing, graphic design, web development? Use the opportunity to learn how to create slick digital packages and then use what you've created in your professional portfolio. Remember, no time is wasted time!
