I'm Doing It In A Dress because...
Education is not a privilege. It is vital — a requirement. Just like access to clean water, food and electricity, girls’ rights to education should not be an entitlement. And yet:
“Women make up more than two-thirds of the world's 796 million illiterate people.” ~ UN Women, 2020.
Why? Gender inequality and socio-cultural norms are just two of the factors contributing to this gender gap. Poverty and lack of access to education make it even more impossible. Every girl who misses out on school, misses out on an opportunity to create a whole new life for her family, and the society at large.
At the moment, there’s 130 million girls out of school. I’m putting on a #dress to help raise awareness and raise funds for girls’ education in #SierraLeone and #Uganda. You can access my fund-raising page at the link attached here.
