Welcome, Emma! We are so thrilled to have you lead the charge at One Girl. How are you feeling as you step into this role?
I am feeling so energized. Honestly, I'm a bit humbled, too. It’s an incredible responsibility. When you look at the stats on why girls' education is the single most powerful investment we can make - how it can break the cycle of poverty and lift entire communities - you realize that fundraising isn’t just about "money in the bank." It’s about being the bridge between a donor's generosity and a girl's entire future. I'm ready to build a lot of bridges.
Tell us a bit about your journey. What brings you to this moment?
I’ve spent my career working in NGOs and non-profits, often with vulnerable or stigmatised communities. I was most recently working in sexual and reproductive health and rights, but I've always been drawn to the "radical impact" of education. I don't see fundraising as a transaction; I see it as stewardship.
I’ve been aware of One Girl since the founders spoke at my high school years ago, and have been impressed with the longevity and impact of the organization. That consistency tells me we aren't just doing good work, we are doing trustworthy work.
You mentioned stewardship and relationships. Is that the core of your fundraising philosophy?
Definitely. A modern fundraiser isn't just asking for a donation; we are co-creating impact. When I talk to our donors, I want them to feel like partners. I don't want our partners to just feel like a donor, I want them to feel like the safety net that is specifically ensuring those young women reach the finish line of their education. My philosophy is very simple: Focus on the individual impact, and the big numbers will follow.
Looking ahead, what is your goal for your first year?
My goal is continuity. I want to ensure that every partner who has trusted us knows that we are the absolute best stewards of their investment. We are working on ways to co-create impact and build a fundraising ecosystem that feels personal, high-integrity, and unshakeably impactful.
Last question! What is one thing you want the One Girl community to know about you?
That I am here for the long haul. The girls we support are on a seven-year journey. I plan to be right beside them, connecting them with the partners they need, for as long as it takes. I can't wait to meet you all!
