Using Storytelling and Technology to Amplify Girls’ Voices

16 Apr 2026

The digital world moves fast. Every day, new platforms, conversations, and risks emerge online. For young people, especially girls, having the skills to navigate this space safely and confidently is more important than ever.

Several of One Girl's past and current students were selected to take part in mobile journalism training in Moyamba, in the Southern Province of Sierra Leone.

Learning to Tell Their Own Stories

Over two days, the girls learned how to use their phones to tell stories, share information, and raise awareness on issues that matter to them.

They explored topics such as sexual health and rights, online harassment, and cyberbullying. Through this training, they built practical communication skills and the confidence to speak up on issues affecting their lives and communities.

Navigating the Digital World Safely

With increased access to mobile phones and the internet, girls are entering digital spaces that can both empower and expose them to risk.

The training gave the girls tools to recognise online harm, respond to unsafe situations, and protect themselves and others. Learning how to navigate these spaces safely helps ensure technology becomes a tool for connection, learning, and opportunity.

The Impact of Girls’ Education

This is what girls’ education makes possible.

When girls are supported with the right knowledge and skills, they can use their voices, share their stories, and take an active role in shaping their futures.
