At One Girl, we know that true, lasting change for girls doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It takes a "village" of organizations, government bodies, and community leaders working in lockstep to create a fairer world.
Today, the One Girl Sierra Leone team hit the streets of Freetown for a very special cause: the Annual NGO Walk.
What is NGO Week?
The NGO Walk marks the beginning of NGO Week—a nationwide celebration of the vital role that non-governmental organizations play in the development and prosperity of Sierra Leone.
This year, we were honored to walk alongside:
-
The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED)
-
SLANGO (Sierra Leone Association of Non-Governmental Organisations)
-
Dozens of our fellow NGO partners and changemakers.
Why We Walk
While the walk is a celebration, it’s also a powerful symbol of solidarity. By joining MoPED and SLANGO, we are reaffirming our commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ensuring that the voices of girls and young women are at the heart of the national agenda.
When NGOs and the government work together, we can:
-
Streamline education resources to reach the most remote villages.
-
Strengthen safeguarding policies to protect scholars in and out of the classroom.
-
Ensure transparency in how we deliver impact to our donors and the communities we serve.
