Supporting girls’ education takes more than classrooms and school supplies. It takes strong community partnerships that help girls access the services and support they need to thrive.
Recently, 53 One Girl students and staff from a remote area in Sierra Leone visited the Better Lives Foundation in Yonibana, where they were welcomed for a guided tour of the medical facilities and services available to local communities completely free of charge.
The visit gave the girls an opportunity to learn more about healthcare services available in their region and better understand where they can seek medical support when needed.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
During the visit, the girls were introduced to different areas of the hospital and learned about the range of care available to patients across Tonkolili District and surrounding communities.
The Better Lives Foundation operates Yonibana Sai Hospital, a facility that provides free medical treatment and surgeries to patients who may otherwise be unable to access healthcare. The organisation also supports education and community outreach programs across Sierra Leone.
For many young people, especially girls in rural communities, access to healthcare information is limited. Experiences like this help students build awareness around their health, wellbeing, and the services available to support them.
Why Partnerships Matter
At One Girl, we know that girls’ education is closely connected to health, safety, and community support.
Partnerships like this allow us to strengthen the support available to our scholars beyond education alone. By connecting girls with trusted organisations and local services, we can help remove barriers that may otherwise impact their ability to stay in school and succeed.
These collaborations are not always about funding. They are about working together to maximise impact and create stronger support systems for girls and their communities.
Working Together for Greater Impact
We are incredibly grateful to the team at Better Lives Foundation for welcoming our scholars and sharing their work.
Moments like this remind us how important collaboration is in creating lasting change. When organisations come together with a shared commitment to supporting communities, girls are better equipped to learn, grow, and build brighter futures.
Why Community Partnerships Matter in Education
At One Girl, we know that girls’ education is closely connected to health, safety, and community support.
“Partnerships are not always about funding relationships, but also about how we can leverage available services and support to add value to the work we do and maximise impact.”
